Understanding Your Chakra Alignment: How It Can Support Your Health and Wellness in a Modern World

Return to balance chakra alignment journey

When life feels busy, overwhelming or disconnected, taking time to understand your energy can be a powerful way to reconnect with yourself.

We live in a world that rarely encourages us to slow down.

Our phones are constantly demanding our attention. Work can follow us home. Notifications, emails, responsibilities, relationships and the endless pressure to “keep up” can leave us feeling mentally exhausted and physically drained.

In the middle of all this noise, it can be easy to lose touch with something incredibly important, ourselves.

This is where understanding your chakras and your energetic alignment can offer another way of looking at your wellbeing.

Chakras are often described within traditional yogic and spiritual practices as centres of energy within the body. Whether you view them spiritually, symbolically or simply as a framework for self-reflection, exploring the chakras can encourage you to pause and consider what is happening within you, emotionally, mentally and energetically.

What Does Chakra Alignment Mean?

You may have heard people talk about having “blocked”, “imbalanced” or “misaligned” chakras.

Within energy-healing traditions, chakra alignment generally refers to creating a greater sense of balance and flow within your energetic system.

From a practical wellbeing perspective, you can also use chakra work as an opportunity to check in with different areas of your life.

For example:

Do you trust yourself and your ability to make decisions?

Your Solar Plexus Chakra may provide a useful starting point for exploring confidence, boundaries and personal power.

Are there things you need to say but haven’t said?

Your Throat Chakra may encourage you to explore communication, honesty and authentic self-expression.

When looked at this way, chakra awareness becomes more than simply thinking about energy.

It becomes a practice of checking in with yourself.

Why Is Chakra Awareness Relevant in the Modern World?

Modern life can encourage us to live almost entirely from the mind.

We’re constantly thinking.

Planning.

Problem-solving.

Working.

Scrolling.

Reacting.

Trying to achieve.

And while our minds are incredibly powerful, we can become so focused on what needs to happen next that we stop noticing how we actually feel.

We might ignore tiredness until we’re completely exhausted.

We might push emotions aside because we’re “too busy”.

We might say yes when we desperately want to say no.

We might spend hours connected to technology while feeling increasingly disconnected from ourselves.

Chakra awareness can provide a gentle reminder to come back into the body and become present.

Your Body Is Always Giving You Information

One of the most valuable aspects of energy awareness is learning to listen.

Perhaps your shoulders feel tense.

Maybe your breathing has become shallow.

Perhaps your stomach feels unsettled when you’re faced with a particular situation.

Maybe you feel completely drained after spending time with certain people.

Or perhaps you simply wake up one morning knowing that something doesn’t feel quite right.

These sensations don’t necessarily mean that a particular chakra is “blocked”, personally I never use the term “blocked”, I prefer to use “unbalanced” when referring to chakras, as I find that is a more accurate description.

However, they can be useful invitations to pause and ask:

What am I feeling?

What do I need?

What have I been ignoring?

Where in my life do I feel balanced — and where don’t I?

Sometimes, simply creating the space to ask these questions can change how we relate to ourselves.

Chakra Alignment and Self-Care

Self-care is often presented as something we need to buy.

A treatment.

A product.

A holiday.

And while these things can absolutely be enjoyable, genuine wellbeing is also about how we relate to ourselves every day.

Chakra awareness can become part of a more intentional self-care practice.

You might spend a few minutes grounding yourself in the morning, by placing your bare feet on the grass.

You might practise breathwork when you feel overwhelmed, like 4-8 breathing.

You could meditate with your awareness on a particular chakra.

You might journal about something you’ve been struggling to express.

You could spend time in nature to reconnect with your sense of grounding.

All of which cost nothing financially, but have huge benefits to your personal wellbeing.

You might also choose to receive Reiki or another complementary wellbeing treatment as a way of creating dedicated time to pause and reconnect.

The important thing isn’t necessarily which practice you choose.

It is making time to listen to yourself, be present and take some time out to look after your well being.

A Simple Chakra Check-In

You don’t need an hour of meditation or an elaborate ritual.

Try this simple check-in when you have five quiet minutes.

Find somewhere comfortable and take a few slow breaths.

Then gently bring your awareness through the seven chakra areas, from the base of your spine upwards.

Ask yourself:

🌱 Root: Do I feel safe, grounded and supported?

🌊 Sacral: Am I allowing myself to feel, create and enjoy?

🔥 Solar Plexus: Do I trust myself and my decisions?

💚 Heart: Am I giving myself the same compassion I give others?

💙 Throat: Is there something I need to communicate?

💜 Third Eye: Am I listening to my intuition and giving myself space to reflect?

✨ Crown: Do I feel connected to something greater than the day-to-day demands of life?

Don’t judge your answers.

There are no “right” or “wrong” responses.

Simply notice.

Sometimes awareness is the first step towards change.

Chakra Alignment Isn’t About Being Perfectly Balanced All the Time

One of the biggest misconceptions around wellbeing is that we should somehow reach a permanent state of balance.

But life doesn’t work that way.

There will be stressful periods.

There will be grief, change, uncertainty and challenges.

There will also be moments of joy, connection, creativity and peace.

Your energy and emotions naturally move through different states.

The goal isn’t to remain perfectly balanced every minute of every day.

It’s about becoming more aware of when you’ve moved away from your own sense of balance — and learning the tools that can helps you return to balance.

Bringing Your Energy Back Into Your Everyday Life

Understanding your chakras doesn’t have to become another thing on your never-ending to-do list.

Instead, think of it as a reminder.

A reminder to slow down.

A reminder to listen.

A reminder to notice how you’re feeling.

A reminder that your wellbeing matters too.

In a world that constantly pulls your attention outward, turning your awareness inward can be a powerful act of self-care.

You don’t have to completely change your life.

Start with five minutes.

Take a breath.

Notice your body.

Ask yourself what you need.

And listen to the answer.

Your energy deserves your attention.

If you’re curious about exploring Reiki, chakra awareness and energy healing in a calm, judgment free, supportive environment, a Reiki session can be a beautiful opportunity to step away from the busyness of modern life and reconnect with yourself.

When was the last time you truly checked in with yourself?

Perhaps today is the perfect time to begin.

Please note: Chakra systems and Reiki come from spiritual and traditional practices and are not scientifically established systems for diagnosing or treating medical conditions. They can be explored as complementary approaches to relaxation, self-reflection and personal wellbeing.
