Reiki therapy aftercare Guidance
Below is some guidance for aftercare from receiving a Reiki therapy treatment, while highlighting
some points to understand about Reiki, to consider and be aware of that will be beneficial to know
to help you get the most from your experience receiving Reiki therapy with me.
Guidance after a Reiki therapy Treatment
- Ensure normal hydration (1.5 l per day being a common benchmark).
- As much as possible try and rest after a Reiki treatment.
- Listen- pay attention to any signs that your mind/ heart or body is trying to tell you.
Possible responses to Reiki therapy treatment
The individual response to Reiki treatments varies, from person to person, and indeed the same
person can have an experience to a Reiki treatment, that may be different from a previous
experience. As Reiki professionals do not diagnose, if you have any concerns about any symptoms, it
is advised that you speak to a licensed medical professional. Below are some possible experiences
following a Reiki therapy treatment. To try and provide you with an idea of the possible range of
sensations and experiences after a Reiki therapy treatment, I have listed some below. Be aware that
it is also completely normal not to experience any sensations.
Common responses after a Reiki therapy treatment
- Commonly an increased feeling of relaxation or an underlying sense of calm, that holds
beyond the treatment itself for a day or so. - Sleep may start to improve (with many this tends to be a few sessions into a course of
treatments). - Sometimes subtle changes in outlook, response to stress, feeling more at peace, feeling
more grounded, or clearer in mind.
Observing the healing process- Clearing Sensations
Sometimes a person may experience mild physical sensations that are indicative of the body
cleansing itself, as Reiki is understood to support the body’s natural healing mechanisms. It is
important to observe these sensations in a positive context, as they are signs of the body bringing
itself back into balance. This is part of the healing experience also. These could include slight
headaches, increased urination, release in tears, or mild cold, or detox, or flu-type sensations. In
general, these would be experienced the day or so after treatment and linger for a few days only.
Don’t be put off if you experience any clearing sensations. The possibility also exists that if you
currently experience symptoms from a condition, that the symptoms could appear to get worse for a
short period, before improving.
In general, I find if strong clearing sensations are experienced, their strength tends to diminish with
further Reiki treatments, commonly strongest after the first treatment, then lessening the second,
likely disappeared by the third appointment. As the body continues to clear, these situations tend to
settle- so keep going. A key point to understand is that Reiki energy is both natural and neutral, your
body absorbs it and your body decides how best to use it, rather than Reiki doing something to you.
